Magic Angles

For this shot I wanted to capture the detail in the fly's tongue and also keep the eyes in focus. It's a shot I've wanted for a while and it's made difficult due to limited depth of field. I was able to get the shot by using what's known as a "magic angle". Here's how it's done..

Magnification

This shot was taken at nearly 3x life-size. I chose this magnification to isolate the spiders face and eyes, which I thought was an interesting composition and gave the scene some personality.
