Bahamas Day 542 (BD542 – (Monday, July 1, 2013) – We all enjoyed the marina cocktail party.  Of course, Vanessa brought her own non-alcoholic drink!

BD543 – (Tuesday, July 2, 2013) – We drove into town with many stops along the way.  We stopped at boutiques, grocery stores, the straw market, gift shops and had lunch at the deli.  Among other things, we each purchased a t-shirt celebrating the Bahamas’ 40th year of Independence.  Their Independence Day is July 10th

BD544 – (Wednesday, July 3, 2013) – We took it easy today, but plan a big day for tomorrow, the 4th of July.  Vanessa baked cookies this morning and then she learned how to play a new game on the computer.  We had a nice pork chop supper together.  She told me that she finished reading her book (a homework assignment for the summer) but she has only just begun to complete the book report.  I don’t ever remember having to do school work during the summer, so I think she’s doing great to be this far along.

BD545 (Thursday, July 4, 2013)  – Happy Birthday America and to our friend, Curt (who is not quite as old).  We went to the Grand Isles Resort and got a day pass for the three of us.  Their infinity pool was so relaxing, we hated to get out of it, but we did when the first rainfall came.  While sitting in the open air restaurant to avoid the rain drops, we decided that we would go ahead and eat lunch.  The rain stopped once, but a second shower came along before we finished.  After the second shower, we got back in the pool until they announced that they were about to have beach games.  So we went down to the beach.  While I sat in a lounge chair watching the obstacle course game, Rick and Vanessa walked down the beach.  When they got back, we were all watching the sack races when it started raining again.  So we abandoned the beach and decided it was time to go back to the boat.

BD546 (Friday, July 5, 2013) – I spent the day inventorying all of our food stuffs and supplies in anticipation of leaving here on Monday.  While I was busy on the boat, Rick and Vanessa went to town and then drove around trying to find a beach where they could snorkel.  But, it was too rough everywhere.  Tonight, we plan to drive to Stuart Manor.  Andrew told us that they are having their “homecoming” this weekend and there is supposed to be entertainment tonight and a sort of fair tomorrow.

BD547 (Saturday, July 6, 2013) – We invited Susan, of the S/V Genesis, to ride with us into town to do our grocery shopping.  We stopped at the Shop Rite and then at Exuma Market and finally at the Island Meat Market.  Susan invited Vanessa to come on board their sailboat to see the difference between living on a cruiser and living on a sailboat and also to meet her cat, Lulu. She also loaned “V” a few DVDs to watch.  Later in the afternoon, we invited LA and Susan to join us at the Stewart Manor Homecoming.  We didn’t make it last night because we weren’t sure where the festivities were taking place.  So around 4:00 in the afternoon, the five of us got in the car and drove up to Stuart Manor and found the celebration with no trouble at all.   Unfortunately, there were not many people there yet.  We talked to one lady, selling some delicious looking food, and she said that most people came after dark.  So, we got back in the car and drove up to Barraterre.  We stopped to look at the view at the government dock.  It was very rough out and we saw a tour boat coming in.  While we were sitting in the car, a gentleman came up and knocked on the window.  It was Captain Bob of Sugar Adventures.  Sugar Adventures is another tour company that regularly take folks from Great Exuma all the way up to Compass Cay with a number of sightseeing stops in between.  He asked Rick if he was there looking for him and we explained that we were just watching the other tour boat dock.  Captain Bob then said that he was from Stuart Manor and they were having their homecoming today and we should stop by.  We thanked him and told him that we had already stopped but there wasn’t much going on yet.  After that we drove back south and ended up at Catch A Fire.  LA and Susan had not been here, so we all got out, went to the bar and had a drink.  It was about 8:00 when we returned to the boat.
