In September, 2012, we were invited to join a group of 4 couples from Texas for dinner over at Fowl Cay Resort’s Hill House Restaurant.  Fowl Cay is between Sampson and Staniel.  It is just over a mile from Staniel Cay equaling a very pretty 7-minute boat ride.  Fowl Cay faces Big Majors Spot where the swimming pigs are.

Location Map from Fowl Cay's website

It was once used by the local community as an island where they kept their chickens for food. In the 50′s a French couple bought the island to use for vacations.  The island passed through two other families and was established as the first high-end luxury resort in the Exumas in March, 2002. It was sold again in 2007, and is now a Sandals Boutique Resort.  You can find out more about it at www.fowlcay.com  The map above came from their website.

The Hill House restaurant and pub is a relaxing as well as elegant dining spot. It has the highest elevation on the island and boasts 360° views of the central Exumas.   In the pub, with its cozy, rustic décor, including decorative fireplaces, we enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and a game or two of pool before dinner.

Bar in Lounge at Fowl Cay's Hill House RestaurantAs with many eating establishments in the Bahamas, you must call in the morning to give them your selection for the evening meal.  This evening’s menu included a choice of pork tenderloin or fresh fish along with conch chowder and Crème Brule for desert.  We enjoyed it so much that we made a reservation to go back on October 13th to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

On October 13, 2012, when we entered the lounge, we noticed that there was a group of 6 people together and one gentleman was wearing an FSU shirt.  He asked the manager to turn on the TV so that we could see the FSU/Boston College football game.  While conversing with this group, we learned that the three couples live in the Orlando area and all of the men had just or where just about to turn 50.  Most of them had attended FSU.  What a small world we live in.  The gentleman wearing the FSU shirt had been the president of the Orlando Area Seminole Club and I am a past-president of the Manatee Seminole Club.  In addition to that, one of the wives, had grown up in Ormond Beach where Rick and I grew up.  Her maiden name was Briley and her father was part of the Briley, Wild & Associates Engineering Firm.

Our next visit to Fowl Cay Resort was for our Valentine’s dinner on February 14, 2013.  Rick had lobster and I had lamb.  At the door was a hostess with flutes of “red” champagne for everyone and a rose for each lady.  We spent the cocktail hour in the lounge and saw how they made the champagne red.  They put about a jigger of grenadine in the bottom of the glass before adding the champagne.  It looked and tasted great.  I could go on and on about the meal and the “love songs serenade” by the bartender, Waylon.  The people that we visited with were very interesting as well.

But, how the Full Report purchase cialis online customers can distinguish the best TV are as follows.
We celebrated my sister-in-law’s birthday at Fowl Cay on August 13, 2013.  We arrived by boat at 6:30 and were greeted at the dock by one of the employees.  Then she escorted us up the hill to the restaurant/lounge.  We spent about an hour in the lounge with our choice of drinks enjoying delicious chicken appetizers and visiting with folks who are staying at the resort.

We were then seated in the dining room where we enjoyed our meals of duck or mahi-mahi.

At the end of our meal, we were surprised when the staff came out of the kitchen singing and delivering a “special” key lime tart to the table to celebrate Mary’s birthday.

We returned to Fowl Cay to celebrate Rick’s 64th birthday on Friday, November 22, 2013.

On February 14, 2014, there were only two other people in the Fowl Cay Resort lounge when we arrived just before 6:30, but it soon filled up.  There were a number of people there for the evening that we knew.  Much to our surprise, our new friends Herb and Chris O’Neil walked in.  We met them about two weeks ago when they stayed several nights at Compass Cay.  Their boat, Easy Going, is a Meridian 490, and our boat is a Bayliner 4788.  Brunswick (company who owns Bayliner, Sea ray, Hatteras, Sealine, Maxum, Boston Whaler, Cabo, Mercruiser, plus many other boat lines and even Cummins diesel) discontinued the Bayliner series of Motor yachts and Pilothouse Yachts in the spring of 2002 and they were “reborn” as Meridians for the 2003 model year with only very minor changes, such as the portlights on the Meridians being oval shaped.  All the 49′ – 58′ Meridians were built from the same molds in the same factory by the same people as the Bayliners in Washington State. The Meridians have higher grade fabrics, hardware, bedding, faucets, etc., than the Bayliners, but many of the standard items offered on all Bayliners were options on the Meridians.  So, because our two boats are so similar, we naturally shared lots of boat information every time we saw each other.

A quick conversation with the manager of Fowl Cay, Yves, made it possible for the four of us to be seated together for dinner.  Herb and I had veal for dinner and Chris and Rick had ordered the seared tuna.  Everything was delicious and the meal was topped off with a heart-shaped apple tart accompanied by vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce.

When Fowl Cay Resort has enough room, they take dinner reservations from locals on Valentine’s Day which may be their busiest night.  Cocktails with bar snacks begin at 6:30 and you are seated between 7:30 and 8:00.  In 2015, the cost was $140 per person which included a three-course dinner along with all drinks and appetizers.  They gave each of the women a red rose and Waylon sang quite a few songs.  Many of us danced to his music.  We were joined by Tokkie, Gail and his guests, Kevin and Karen, for dinner.  It was the first time that any of them had been there, but I’m sure that it won’t be the last.  We all enjoyed the meal and the entertainment.
