Little Sampson Cay, which is often just called Sampson Cay, is the better known of the two islands because of its marina.  Both were owned by Marcus Mitchell.  We met Marcus and his family when they came to nearby Compass Cay for the day.  We saw the couple again that evening at Fowl Cay for Valentine’s Day dinner 2013.  He told us that they continue to own and live on the island just across from the marina, which is Big Sampson Cay, where he and a partner run a marine salvage business, Overseas Salvage & Maintenance, Ltd.  ( www.overseasmarinegroup.com ) I couldn’t place his accent, so asked from where he originally hailed. He told us he was from Eleuthera.

Marcus sold Little Sampson Cay, with its marina, to billionaire telecommunications mogul, John Malone.  Information on the www.yachtforum.com says,

“He developed it into what it is back around 2003.  ….the view from the marina is breath taking.  Plus it had everything you needed, BBQ grills, outside tables, laundry rooms, restrooms, nice grocery store (for Exumas), fuel always, restaurant, paved walkways, and a very protected marina.  They also put paths through all the natural vegetation, without tearing it all down…”
I was around 8-years-old when my father first took me over here levitra without prescription along with him to the pool hall.

In September of 2013, The Sampson Cay Marina closed for renovations and the following month, Mr. Malone announced that it would not re-open to the public.  But, it will continue to be used by his family and guests.  The privatization of Little Sampson Cay leaves the smaller Compass Cay Marina as the only facility in the area with all-around protection, as Staniel Cay Yacht Club’s docks can become uncomfortable in strong west to northwest winds — in some instances, the docks must be cleared for the safety of the boats and the marina.  Since Compass Cay does not sell fuel, the Staniel Cay Yacht Club is now the only source of fuel in the area.
