December 1 through December 15

Normal activities this month included: volunteering; choir practices, church and Sunday school, hair cut and massage.

On Saturday, 12/1, I sang with the choir at Samoset First Baptist Church’s annual “Walk through Bethlehem”. Dad enjoyed the music.

On Monday, 12/3, Kellie, JP and Emma visited Rick’s remains and left a beautiful Christmas poinsettia.

This month I visited the dentist twice and saw my oncologist for a check-up. My hysterectomy was two years ago and I now only have to go for check-ups every six months.

We all enjoyed the holiday open house held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, 12/8.

On Monday, 12/10, I helped Dad mail his Christmas cards and gifts to the family and attended the North River Care Christmas dinner at Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant. Pictured below are half of the attendees including the three staff members, Laura, Monica and Teri, that I have the privilege of working with every week.

December 16 through December 25

This was a pretty busy 10 days

On Sunday, 12/16, I taught Sunday school class as Kathy, the regular teacher, was on a cruise with her children. Dad stayed home, but I brought both of my granddaughters with me.

On Wednesday, 12/19, I saw my oncologist for check-up. It has been 2 years since my hysterectomy, so I will only have to see her twice a year for the next 3 years.

Thank goodness I had no appointments on Thursday, 12/20, as we were in tornado watch area most of the day. We lost power in the morning for about an hour and the water reached the top of the pool by noon.

On Friday, 12/21, JP and I sold the house in Palmetto Point which we built in 1984. Vanessa and I went to the dress rehearsal for the Christmas cantata at church in the evening.

On Saturday, 12/22, I traded my 2017 Ford Explorer in on a 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid for JP, then we went to the Kia place and started the paperwork to trade in his Explorer in on a new Kia Soul for me. We ran out of time to complete the paperwork so told them we’d come back on Monday.

On Sunday, 12/23, I attended church and Sunday School with Dad, Vanessa and Emma. In the evening, Vanessa and I participated in the performance of the Christmas cantata (including a duet by us) and followed by a finger-food fellowship. JP brought Emma to see her sister and grandmother sing, but they left after our duet.

Monday, 12/24 – Merry Christmas to me! I bought a silver Soul. Rick and I called our previous Soul the “Hamstermobile”, so I imagine that name will be applied to this one as well. Below is a picture of it.

About 4:00 in the afternoon, my brother-in-law Edward Hoffmeister, arrived for Christmas. He, Dad and I joined Emma, Vanessa, JP and Kellie along with her parents and half-sister, Terry, for a delicious Christmas Eve dinner of prime rib.

Tuesday, 12/25 – Dad, Edward and I joined JP, Kellie and Emma opening presents about 7:30 in the morning. Below is a picture of the Christmas stockings. We had so much that we had to have an “overflow” basket as well.

We rejoined them around 5:30 in the evening for the second round of present opening with Vanessa, Kellie’s parents, sister and Uncle Jack. Edward left before 7:00 p.m. to drive home to Ormond Beach.

Wednesday, 12/26 through Monday, 12/31

The last week of the year was spent taking down and putting away the Christmas decorations, with lots of relaxing in between work sessions. Dad and I also visited our local YMCA to take a tour of their facilities and make our plans to return next week. I bought both of us memberships for Christmas.
