September 26 – 30 – We had scheduled with First Performance Marina to bring the boat around and have it pulled and the bottom pressured cleaned on Friday.  When they did, we saw quite a few barnacles had already attached themselves to the hull and propellers.  Since the owners of the home where we have been staying are coming home tonight, we decided to keep the boat here in the yard until we take off for the Bahamas, hopefully late next week.

September 22-25, 2014.  Lots of shopping these four days with Rick still installing things and fixing things on the boat.  On Thursday, we made our “big” trip to Sam’s in the morning, then spent the afternoon, repackaging all of the meat in Food Saver bags and filling the chest freezer.

September 19-21, 2014.  On Friday morning we left the house in Palmetto just after 8:00 and drove across the state to Vero Beach, Florida, to the home of Bob and Kathy Weems.  Here we met Tucker Rolle (owner of Compass Cay) and his cousin, Cedric, for a brief visit.  Then Tucker joined us as we continued south, making a quick stop in Stuart to say hello to Shawn (who brings his boat, Grace, with his wife and 3 daughters to Compass every summer) and Preston (Tucker’s brother).  Preston is seeing an eye specialist in Palm Beach.  Preston told me that he thought he might be able to come back to work at Compass Cay in December.  As we left Stuart, it started to rain and continued to do so until we dropped Tucker off at his hotel and returned to the boat.  Rick and Tucker had breakfast at Lester’s Diner on Sunday and then did some shopping before going to the Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport for Tucker’s 1:00 flight back to Compass Cay on Watermaker Air.

September 15-18, 2014.  We drove from Ft. Lauderdale to Ormond Beach to visit with Rick’s mother and brother on Monday and Tuesday; then stayed the night with my Dad in the Ocala Forest on Wednesday.  We drove to Palmetto on Thursday morning.  I was joined by Jackie Sosville at the Great Mates Luncheon that afternoon.  The Great Mates have had a “Bundles for Babies” drive for a number of years to support North River Care Pregnancy Center and, once again, there was a wonderful response to the call for donations of gifts which are usually used as Christmas gifts to the expectant mothers and mothers that have recently given birth.

September 3 thru 14 – Rick purchased a number of parts that we needed from Boat Owners Warehouse and we began purchasing food stuffs to use while we are back in the Bahamas. Our goal is to purchase a 6-month supply, but only of the things that we know are hard to find over there.  We had more problems with the macerator and the forward air conditioning.  The Ft. Lauderdale area got a lot of rain from a tropical depression for about the last 5 days of this period.

September 2, 2014 – We drove from Palmetto to Ft. Lauderdale, via Stuart, Florida.  Here we visited a marine surplus store looking for a new lower end for our outboard motor that we use on the dinghy.  When we had no luck there, we decided to try to find Allied Marine and marina where Shawn works.  We met Shawn, his wife, Tina, and their girls last summer at Compass.  We did find the marina and Shawn told us that Preston Rolle (Tucker’s brother) and his wife were in town.  He took us over for a short visit with them and a brief visit with Tina and then we headed on down to Ft. Lauderdale.

September 1, 2014 – We spent this Monday, Labor Day holiday, at the Bradenton Yacht Club visiting with many friends at Tiki Bar and Pool.

August 18, 2014 through August 31, 2014 – We spent most of this time on the boat in Ft. Lauderdale.Tucker Rolle, from Compass Cay, was in town Thursday, August 21 through Saturday, August 23. We went to dinner with him and friends, Mary and her son, Will, on Thursday and Friday evenings. Rick took Tucker around town shopping on Friday and to the Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport on Saturday, where he caught his Watermaker Air flight back to Staniel Cay.

We had some unexpected repairs made on the boat Monday through Wednesday, 8/25 through 8/27, and returned to Palmetto on Thursday, 8/28, for medical appointments scheduled on Friday. Our oldest granddaughter, Vanessa, went to a friend’s on Friday for a 2-night sleepover, so she was not able to join us on Saturday when we took Rick’s mother and brother, our son and daughter-in-law and the baby to supper at the Bradenton Yacht Club.

On Sunday, August 31, 2014, we joined over 35 people in wishing our other granddaughter, Emma Grace Hoffmeister, a very happy first birthday.

It was great to see many friends that JP grew up with attending with their families: Grey and Rebecca (who co-hosted the baby shower with me last year); Drew and Breana with their 6-month old son; and Curtis and Chris with their two daughters Haley and Marisa. There were guests from JP’s running club and several people who worked with Kellie in attendance and many of them brought their children with them. I was also very thankful that several in the family were able to come from out of town including: Rick’s mother, Geri, and brother, Edward; my brother, Bill with his wife, Mary; and also coming from the Daytona Beach area (after church) my niece, Melissa and her 16-year old son, Michael.

It was also very nice of our neighbor and long-time friend, Ann Mahoney to skip the first part of her own birthday party to attend. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. There were a few yard games for the children to play and a slide show of picture’s taken during Emma’s first year in the downstairs playroom where the food was set up. Emma had her own little cake with whipped cream frosting that she delighted in smearing all over her face. After a dunk in the pool to clean off, she opened lots of presents (with the help of her Mom, Kellie) and enjoyed all of the new toys and clothes. In deference to the parents’ wishes, I will not post pictures of any of the children.
