October 1 – October 15, 2017

Things seem to be settling into a routine.  I try to volunteer at the elementary school down the street from where I live twice a week.  I try to go to the gym at least once a week.  And I try to go to see Dad every two weeks.  I continue to remove things from the boat and hope to have it ready to put on the market by the end of this month.

The first week in October, I also attended a fundraising dinner for the North River Care Pregnancy Center on Thursday evening.

The new house has finally been started, as evidenced by the fact that I went by the builder’s office on Friday, 10/5 with check for Change Order #1.

The second week of October included all of the routine things as well as practice for the Christmas cantata at church; a visit to the eye doctor; and a wonderful 90-minute massage.

Friday, 10/13 thru Sunday, 10/15 – I joined Ken and Jackie Sosville on their boat, Snowman, for a weekend cruise-away with the Bradenton Yacht Club Power Fleet to the Tampa Yacht Club where I celebrated what would have been my 45th wedding anniversary on Friday with many friends and a toast to Rick.

Picked up new glasses.  Went back to MDC for further testing as a result of recent mammogram.  (Results were good.)  Attended the 2nd session of Introduction to Fitness at the gym, learning about different exercises for leg strengthening.  Spent Thursday at home, taking care of lots of (seemingly never-ending) paperwork.  Drove to Sarasota to meet with my financial advisor on Friday, then picked up JP.  We drove out to the lot and then tried a nearby Italian restaurant before going to a new doctor’s office for JP to get an appointment and for me to turn in some paperwork.  I found a notice on my front door announcing a neighborhood-wide garage sale on Saturday, November 5th.  So, I decided to go through the things I had recently brought from the boat and had stacked in my bedroom.  By the time I was finished, I had 3 bags of items for the sale.  So, I made up a schedule to go through my entire home before the sale.

10/2210/28 -After church, I took a couple of bags out of my closet that had jewelry in them that I had not put away since we moved in here.  By the time I finished it, I had two bags of jewelry to add to the garage sale.  I received a claim from Moffitt Cancer Center putting Rick’s estate on notice that all of his bills had not yet been paid.  They are looking for approximately $6,000.   When Rick turned 65, he signed up for the most comprehensive Medicare supplemental insurance that he could find.  (That was approximately 6 months before he was diagnosed with Mesothelioma.)  Because of this, we have not had to pay any hospital or doctor’s bills – they have all been completely covered by the combination of insurances.  So, I spent time, both Saturday and Sunday afternoon going through Medicare statements and his supplemental insurance benefit statements to try to figure out what had not been paid to Moffitt.  On Monday, I talked to Moffitt about the claim on Rick’s estate.  They told me that they sent those out routinely, but since most of the payments had already been received and the history of payments indicated that the others would be paid, they would rescind the claim.  They are sending the paperwork to the estate attorney.  I did my hour’s volunteer work with the first grade class at Imagine School and then went to the gym for an hour.  In the afternoon, I continued gathering items for the upcoming community garage sale.  Later, JP brought over a load of stuff to go in the sale as well.  After I finished at school on Tuesday, I got a haircut; JP brought over more garage sale items; and I finished my day at the Christmas cantata practice. After my Intro to Fitness Class on Wednesday (aerobics), I drove to Ocala to visit Dad and returned home in the evening.  Thursday saw me taking care of some of Dad’s business and more garage sale preparation.  On Friday I drove out to the lot to check on the house building progress.  Below is a picture of my front entry.  JP and Kellie will have a separate front door.

Then, I went shopping and bought some table items for Thanksgiving.  I am so pleased that many of my family will be coming to my house for Thanksgiving dinner this year.  The week ended with a fun Children’s Halloween party at the Bradenton Yacht Club where I joined JP, Kellie, Emma and their friends Val, Frank and Vianne.

10/29 – 10/31 – After church on Sunday, several of the Sunday School class members stayed to pack boxes of items to be sent oversees to children for Christmas.  Then, five of us went to lunch.  When I got home, I went through the garage marking several items for the community garage sale.  After my school volunteer work, I went to bank to get some change for the garage sale and picked up some meds before going home to cleaning and pricing some of the items for the yard sale.  I went over to JP’s on Tuesday morning to house sit while he went to an appointment.   He had workmen at the house changing out the bathtub in the guest bathroom.  I did some more cleaning of items for the yard sale before getting ready to hand out candy for Halloween.  I was excited that JP and Kellie brought Emma to my neighborhood to go Trick-or-Treating this year.  Some of the adults who came around with their children really appreciated my adult treat of a glass to-go of the “Sweet Bloody Red Halloween” wine that Edward gave us for Christmas last year.
