Tuesday August, 1 – Saturday, August 5, 2017

Tuesday, 8/1 – Jackie Sosville came to the house to spend the morning with me.  In the afternoon, JP, Kellie and I met with the minister and then I went shopping to get a black dress.

Wednesday, 8/2 – I drove to Ocala in the morning to tell my Dad about Rick’s passing.  He took the news very well.  I returned home in pouring down rain under some wicked looking clouds, but I was glad there was no wind associated with the weather – like yesterday.  I had supper with Bill and Ruth and extended my early wishes for him to have a good 70th birthday tomorrow.

Thursday, 8/3 – My son and daughter-in-law thought I needed some pampering, so they booked me a 90-minute massage this morning.  They spent some time with me in the afternoon at the house.

Friday, 8/4 – More pampering – Kellie, Vanessa and I went to have our nails done in preparation for the memorial service this evening.  It was a nice way to start the day.  The church was nearly overflowing with people; the comments made at the end of the service were precious; the flowers were beautiful; the food prepared by church members was terrific.  There were more than 20 family members sitting with me at the front of the church.  I cannot express my gratitude.

Saturday, 8/5 – A number of family members came to the house for lunch.  Food was provided by yacht club friends, organized by Summer Smith Pope, who had worked with Rick and also gone to school with our daughter-in-law Kellie.  A big thanks to Summer and Brian, Jeanne and Mike Reeves, Carolyn and Marty Udelson, Paula and Carl Trembicki, Leah and Jim Check and Pauldie and Randy Howrigan.  (Please forgive me if I left anyone out.)   The whole dining room table was full of food with another room set up for desserts. I brought most of the flowers home from the service, leaving a few to be enjoyed by the congregation tomorrow.  They were all very special, but one most of all because it reminded me of our time in the Bahamas.  Rick’s Aunt Tillie and Uncle Jimmy, who live on Andros Island, included the colors of the Bahamian flag in the bow on the plant.

Sunday August 6 – Saturday, August 12, 2017

Sunday, 8/6 – After church, Mat, Lindsay, Edward and I met JP, Kellie and Emma at the lot and then at the model home.  Lindsay says she has “dibs” on a bath in his new soaker tub!  We spent a quiet afternoon at home with Edward leaving to return to Ormond Beach after dark.

Monday, 8/7 – Mat and Lindsay left here around 5 a.m. to return their rental car at the St. Pete/Clearwater airport before catching  their flight back to Knoxville and going to work today.

Tuesday, 8/8 – I went for a blood draw in the morning and then met JP at the County’s gym to sign up for membership.  While there, I rode a stationary bike for ½ hour while JP was lifting weights.  After our “workouts”, we had a nice breakfast at the nearby Sage Biscuit Restaurant.  I contacted a couple of attorney’s in the afternoon to start the process of setting up an estate for Rick, and got together paperwork necessary for an appointment I have at the Veterans Services office tomorrow morning.  I went to JP’s for supper with him and Emma.

Wednesday, 8/9 – I met with a representative of Veterans Services to complete the paperwork for me to receive spousal benefits for a disabled veteran who died from his service related illness.  She told me that it might be 4 to 6 months before I start to receive the monthly payments.  In the afternoon, Rick’s clock was delivered.  We took it for repairs months ago and every time they tried to bring it home, Rick was in the hospital.  It was one of the things he asked me about that last week – had I made arrangements for the clock to be delivered.  Well, now it is home.

Thursday, 8/10 – JP met me at the boat this morning to try to start getting some of the stuff off.  Unfortunately, when we got there, we discovered that the air conditioning wasn’t working, so we could only work for a short time.  In the afternoon, we met with an attorney in Sarasota to see about getting an estate set up for Rick.

Friday, 8/11 – I met JP at the County gym again this morning and today I rode the stationary bike for 5 more minutes!  We dropped some paperwork off at the builder’s office and on the way home, I received a condolence call from Rick’s cousin in Pennsylvania (also Rick Hoffmeister).  In the afternoon, JP and I went out to the lot which had been cleared this morning of some trash trees that had grown onto the property from the preserve area.  It looked pretty good.  We went by David Bailey’s (Cherokee, Inc.) to pay him for the clearing and then he dropped me off at the house.  This evening I met friends, Pam and Phil Burghardt for dinner at the Bradenton Yacht Club.  Rick worked with Phil for many years and we had a nice visit.

Saturday, 8/12 – Today was the first day that I’ve been alone all day and it turned out to be a very long day.  But, I got a lot done in the house, including finishing and mailing thankyou’s.

Sunday August 13 – Saturday, August 26, 2017

Sunday, 8/13 – I decided to take it easy today.  JP called to tell me that a friend of Kellie’s who lives in the new neighborhood had sent them pictures of dump loads on our lot, so we met out there to take a look.  There were about a dozen loads of fill right around the area that we just had cleared.  This area is much lower than the rest of the lot and will need to be filled.

Monday, 8/14 – I met JP to go to the gym.  We ate lunch at his house afterward and he helped me make some changes to our cable account billing.

Tuesday, 8/15 – I went to the boat and cleared out the bunk room and the master bathroom.

During the fateful and painful occurrence of gastro esophageal reflux disease the excessive secreted gastric acid starts to be regurgitated in to the sensitive official website buy generic levitra areas of esophagus and successively damages and corrupts all its actions by developing ulceration and certain other severe damages.
Wednesday, 8/16 – I met JP at the gym and then had lunch with Bill and Ruth.

Thursday, 8/17 – I had legal papers that JP and I had to have notarized, so we saw our friends at Baker Paint and Body in Palmetto.  We got our papers notarized and JP got some scratches buffed out of the paint on his car.  I also sold them the Kia to use in their business.  Thank you so much Bill and Ruth.  Then, JP and I went to the boat and cleaned out the guest bedroom and bathroom.  I had a few hours at home before returning to JP’s to meet the family to go to the yacht club for supper.

Friday, 8/18 – I took care of business in the morning and drove by the lot to see if there has been any more activity  (there was none).  Then I went to the funeral home to pick up a second flag for JP and some more pamphlets that were distributed at Rick’s memorial service.

Saturday, 8/19 –  Today, I gathered and documented and delivered a bunch of ladies clothing to Goodwill along with some of the stuff that I took off of the boat.

Sunday, 8/20 – After church, I went to the boat to meet Ken and Jackie.  Ken checked the forward air conditioner which was off.  He pressed a restart button and it started right up, but, it shut down a couple of minutes later.  He then went down in the engine room and checked the strainer.  It was definitely clogged up, so he took care of that for me.  Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem with the forward air, so I told him that I would contact Jamie Switzer to come to the boat and fix it for me.  Ken also ran the engines for me for a little while as well.

Monday, 8/21 – I met JP at the gym and then we went our separate ways until just after noon when we got together and drove to Sarasota to meet with the estate attorney and then with the financial advisor to sign papers relative to Rick’s passing away.

Tuesday, 8/22 – After going to the doctor, I drove north on I-75 heading to the Ocala Forrest.  On the way, I stopped to visit with an old friend that I had not seen for about 17 years.  We had a nice 3-hour visit and then I continued on to Dad’s cabin.

Wednesday, 8/23 – I went in to see Dad in the morning and had a nice visit with long-time friend and neighbor, Carol Martin, in the afternoon.  Then I started shredding Dad’s old paperwork that he had saved over the years unnecessarily.  Three hours later, I decided to take a break and I did not get back to it.

Thursday, 8/24 – I started shredding papers at 8:30 in the morning and worked for 2 hours before taking time to eat some toast for breakfast.  While eating, I heard a mower in the yard and was lucky enough to catch the “yard guy”.  I explained that we were not getting Dad’s house on the market as quickly as I had thought we would, so I would need him to continue mowing through the end of October.  He said that he was happy to do so and I paid him for the remaining time.  I returned to shredding paper and continued until 2:30 pm.  You can finally see the top of Dad’s dresser and there is no longer any paper in any of those drawers.  (He seemed to be using most it for a filing cabinet.)  I loaded the car and drove to Ormond Beach to spend the weekend with Rick’s brother, Edward.   We were supposed to meet Aunt Delores and her family for supper tonight, but Edward received a note from them saying “no family night dinner tonight – having to put Delores in a facility – will try to get together tomorrow and explain all”.  So, Edward and I had waffles for supper at home.

Friday, 8/25 – We talked to Nora who told us that they had moved Aunt Delores into an assisted living home as her Alzheimer’s has finally gotten to the point that she can no longer be left alone.  Nora had a terrible cold so we told her to get some rest and maybe we could get together tomorrow.  Edward and I went to Steak and Shake for supper tonight.

Saturday, 8/26 – I went to the Walmart to buy Dad some pajamas that he said he needed and also found some items for Emma’s upcoming birthday, so I was pleased with my shopping trip.  Edward and I went to visit Aunt Delores in the afternoon and then had supper at Denny’s.

Sunday, August 27 through Thursday, August 31, 2017

Sunday, 8/27 – I said goodbye to Edward just after noon and headed west across State Road 40 to my Dad’s place in the Ocala Forrest.  I only stopped there long enough to load the 8 bags of shredded paper that I left on Thursday.  Then, I continued on to the Rehabilitation Center where Dad lives in Ocala to drop off a couple of pair of pajamas that he had told me he needed.  I drove through some heavy rain from there back home to Palmetto, but arrived safely right around 5 p.m.  I quickly unloaded my car and then went to JP and Kellie’s where we discussed the preliminary landscape plan for the new house as well as several stops I need to make tomorrow to take care of business concerning Rick’s passing.

Monday, 8/28 – After the gym, JP and I went by the insurance agent’s office to make arrangements to change the names on the insurance to me for the car and me and JP for the house in which he lives.  Then we went to the bank.  The bank employee was very helpful.  She explained that I could leave my current joint account active for up to six months to allow me the time to notify all of the organizations who either make direct deposits or have automatic payments coming out of the account.  In the meantime, she opened a new account for me as the primary and JP as a secondary.  Next, we headed to Office Depot so that I could buy another 2-drawer file cabinet.  Now that I’m having Dad’s mail forwarded here, I need a place to file his papers.  After that, we went to Lowe’s where we purchased the 3 ceiling fans that I need for my side of the new house.  We enjoyed some lunch at Panera Bread before returning home.

Tuesday, 8/29 – I spent the day working around the house – putting up a lot of stuff that I had brought from the boat, filing my Dad’s papers in the new file cabinet, and  doing paperwork concerning Rick’s passing.

Wednesday, 8/30 – Today, Bathfitters was scheduled to replace the tub and surround in the guest bathroom at JP’s house, so I volunteered to run some errands for him after I finished getting some things together on the boat.  We ate a late lunch together before I came home.

Thursday, 8/31 – When I met JP at the gym, he told me that Kellie was at the emergency room with my oldest granddaughter, Vanessa.  Vanessa had pain in her torso and they were trying to determine the cause.  At that time, they were checking to see if she had appendicitis.  I stopped by the emergency room on my way home.  Just as I was getting ready to leave, the doctor came in and said that they had ruled out the appendix, but a CT had shown an enlarged gall bladder and some cysts on her ovaries.  They were taking her for sonograms.  I went home for a couple of hours and then met JP at the builder’s office for our pre-construction meeting.  We met our construction manager, Ed, and were very pleased to hear that we will be getting weekly updates from him as to what was done that week and what was scheduled to be done the next week.  He also told us that he hoped we would be able to occupy the new home in about 9 months.   That was really good news as I had just negotiated a 6-month extension on the lease where I am currently living.  As we were leaving, Kellie texted JP and said Vanessa had been released and they were going home.  I rushed home to pick up a few things and then went to their house to have a family birthday dinner for my youngest granddaughter, Emma, who turned 4 years old today.
