Routine Activities:

Dad and I go to YMCA gym several times a week. I volunteer at the North River Care Pregnancy Center weekly and attend their monthly board meeting. For church, I help in the office, sing in the choir and visit shut-ins. I am also a substitute Sunday School teacher and attend the monthly senior supper.

Special occasions:

Birthday wishes go to: Michael Frantz, 8/8, great-nephew; sister-in-law, Mary Cambre and her granddaughter, Louisa Cambre, 8/13; and my granddaughter, Emma on 8/31.

Compass Cay

On Friday, August 2, JP, Kellie, Vanessa, Emma and I drove to the Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport, boarded a Makers Air flight to Staniel Cay, Exumas, Bahamas, where we were greeted by Bob Weems who took us by boat to Compass Cay and then by Kubota up the hill to our home for the weekend, Lilly’s House. Pictured below is the view from the porch that goes all the way around Lilly’s House.

While there, we all swam with the sharks, played on Crescent Beach in the water, went to Rachael’s Bubble Bath and spent a little bit of time at Hester’s Ruins where JP, Edward and I scattered Rick’s ashes last year.

We got to spend some time with Tucker Rolle, his son, Germal, grandson, Trevon and his younger brother, T.J. In the picture below, Germal was supervising my oldest granddaughter making “World Famous Tucker Burgers”

I also had an opportunity to see tour guide, Smiley, who was a big help to me and Rick when we lived there. I was sorry that I didn’t have an opportunity to see to see Loan Rolle or Captain Andrew on this trip, but I’m already planning next year’s trip at the end of July and hope to see them then. We returned to the United States on Monday, 8/5, arriving home about 5:30 p.m.

This month: The rest of the week was spent doing most of our routine activities. I had developed a few blisters walking on the Cay, so I opted out of some of my normal activities to give my feet a rest. On Saturday, we started to plan more details of our upcoming trip to Middle Tennessee in October. If we put in a very long day of driving on Friday, we hope to see my nephew (Dad’s grandson) Tim Cambre and his family for a short visit on Saturday morning before continuing on the Cumberland plateau area where I have swapped my timeshare for a week. At the end of that week, we will move to the Nashville area for a couple of nights where will have a chance to see the sites and visit with my niece (Dad’s granddaughter), Mary Alice Cambre Howard and her husband and son. On Thursday, 8/15, I sent out a “Save the Date” e-mail to a number of friends from the Bradenton Yacht Club inviting them to join me on October 10th for the North River Care Pregnancy Center’s 21st annual banquet. I am excited to say that I have already received several positive replies. Sunday, 8/25, was Sunday School promotion day. We started the morning with a pancake breakfast and a challenge from the deacons. They promised that they would recite all of the 27 books of the New Testament and they challenged the youth to say all 66 books of the Bible. When most of them had finished their recitations, they called my soon-to-be six-year old granddaughter up. Since she was only (almost) 6, she learned the first six books and recited them with ease. Everyone was duly impressed. This week my visitation partner and I added a visit to long-time members, Bob and Emily Bayless. Since Bob is Dad’s Sunday school teacher, we brought him along on the visit. Bob and Emily moved into Freedom Village last fall and one of the first things that they shared with us was that they just sold their house on Terra Ceia yesterday. That was good news indeed. We had a nice visit with them before returning home to rest up for the afternoon.

On Saturday, 8/31, JP and Kellie hosted a pool party for Emma and her friends to celebrate her sixth birthday. While we were all a little nervous about Hurricane Dorian which was headed toward Florida, the weather held out and a good time was had by all.
