Wednesday, 6/1/16 –  Spent my 64th birthday in Paris, France with my wonderful husband Rick touring the city during the day and catching the dinner show at the Moulin Rouge in the evening.   Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday, but missed my co-birthday celebrant, Ruth.

Thursday, 6/2/16 – Our last day in Paris.

Friday, 6/3/16 – A entire day+ spent in travel.  Woke up in Paris at 3:45 a.m.; got to the aiirport before 5 a.m. to catch a 7 a.m. flight to Barcelona.  Caught an American Airlines flight in Barcelona around noon and flew back across the Atlantic Ocean landing in Miami around 4 p.m. (including setting our clocks back 6 hours.)  The last leg was from Miami to Tampa where our son picked us up.  We dropped him off at his house and then went to the boat arriving at approximately midnight.  We figure we’d been traveling for about 25 hours.

Saturday, June 4, 2016 – We drove to Ormond Beach to see Rick’s mother.  As previously noted, she fell when we were in Europe and broke her leg in two places.  She had surgery on it and was transferred a couple of days later to a rehabilitation facility.  We visited with her this afternoon.

Sunday, June 5, 2016 – We visited with Mom for a couple of hours in the morning and then drove back to the boat in Palmetto to get ready for Tropical Storm Colin which is heading from the Yucatan Pennisula to Florida.

Monday, June 6, 2016 – We awoke to rain and some wind and the weather stayed the same most of the day.  I went to see a cardiologist.  He gave me an EKG and ordered an Echocardiogram and a stress test to be done next week.  We went to JP and Kellie’s for supper.  I received a lovely birthday card and a birthday cake from them.

Tuesday, June 7, 2016 – It continued to rain today even though the tropical storm had already moved up to the Carolina coast.  And, the wind was still blowing so hard that the Skyway bridge remained closed for the third day.  The weather forecast calls for continued rain and flooding all day with the winds calming down by this afternoon.  Late in the afternoon, it seemed that the rain had past and the winds calmed down, so we decided to drive to Ocala.

Wednesday, June 8, 2016 –After a nice visit with my Dad and watching part of his occupational therapy (he has arthitis in his hands and wrists) I said goodbye and told him I would be back next week.  I drove back out into the forest and we headed east to Ormond Beach.  We stopped at the rehab center to visit with Rick’s mother and brother for a couple of hours and then went to the house to rest for a few hours before returning for another visit.   We saw a social worker who gave us a report on her progress.  She still needs assistance with everything.  For most things she needs the assistance of two people.  Although she got a good report on her physical therapy this morning, she still has a long way to go before she will get out of the rehabilitation center.

Thursday, June 9, 2016 – We visited with Mom until just before noon and then drove back to Palmetto via SR  40 and I-75.  Since we were close by, we decided to stop at the cabin just to check to see if the mail was delivered – boy was it!  I don’t think the mail person could have crammed one more piece of paper or magazine in the box.  So, I brought it all home with me to go over until we return next week.

Friday, June 10, 2016 – We went to Moffitt Cancer Center on the USF Campus for Rick’s appointments in the morning.  He had blood work done, then a CT Scan and then we met with his doctor.  Dr. Tan showed us his last CT Scan, taken in January, compared to the one taken today and it showed some improvement.  There was actually a little more air in his lung than the last time.  So, the doctor said there was no need for chemotherapy today.  He would see Rick again for another scan in two months.  What GREAT NEWS!  Rick says he is not sured what helped the most – all the walking we did the last two months or all of the wine we consumed in the last two months

Saturday, June 11, 2016 – It was an overcast day we had a quiet dinner on board.

Sunday, June 12, 2016 – The Bradenton Yacht Club is hosting a Fireman’s Fishing Tournament this weekend and we went out to see the weigh-in at the Bradenton Yacht Club.  While there we met Ken and Jackie as their son-in-law, Scott, and grandson, Wesley, were fishing in the tournament.

Monday, June 13, 2016 – I got bloodwork done on me; we made dentist appointments for both of us.; we went to JP’s house and I stayed with Emma while he and his Dad went to Baker’s Auto Body Shop.  JP got an estimate for fixing his car and  Rick dropped off our swim platform ladder cover to be painted.  Then, I went to the cardiologist’s office for an echocardiogram.  It is in the high 80’s and  very, very muggy.

Tuesday, June 14, 2016 –  Not being sure just how long it would take us to get to the Bay Pines VA Medical Center during the morning rush hour traffic, we left around 6:30 and arrived there at 7:30 for his 8:30 appointment.  When we got there, we found a notice posted next to the elevator that the pulmonary section that was on 5D was now located on 3C, so that is where we went.  Rick had just started to sign in when the technician came out and said she was sorry, but they wouldn’t be able to do the pulmonary function test today.   They had just moved (obviously) and the room where the test had to be given was not ready yet due to construction delays.  We told them how very disappointed we were as we had been waiting over a year, but went on our way back down to the first floor to sit and wait until Rick’s 9:30 appointment.  He was seen at exactly 9:30 and the doctor was not happy when he heard about the pulmonary function test.  He made certain that the test was rescheduled to next week before we left.  The doctor explained that he could not finish his report until he got those results and even then, it would most likely be several months before we would hear anything more from VA concerning his disability due to exposure to asbestos while serving in the navy.  In the afternoon, Dr. Tan, from Moffitt Cancer Center, called.  He told Rick that a new immunotherapy trial had just been approved and he thought Rick would be a good candidate for it.  Rick told him to have the trial coordinator give him a call.  We attended the monthly power fleet dinner meeting at the Yacht Club in the evening.

Wednesday, June 15, 2016 – I dropped Rick off at the dentist office about 20 minutes before his appointment and they told him they were very glad he came early and started on him right away.  Then I went to JP’s to watch Emma while he took his car to a repair shop and picked up a rental car to use while it is being fixed.  He picked his dad up at the dentist and then they both came back to the house to get me and Rick and I returned to the boat.  We packed the car to be ready to go to Ocala as soon as I finished taking a stress test later in the afternoon.

Thursday, June 16, 2016 – I went in to the rehab center to see Dad this morning, making a couple of stops to take care of some of his business along the way.  We had a nice visit and then I returned to the cabin and Rick and I drove east across SR 40 to Ormond Beach to see his mother at her rehab facility.  She is doing OK.  She went to the surgeon this week and had the staples removed from her leg.  He told her to be especially carerful not to move her leg from side-to-side until it has had more time to heal.  He again stressed the importance of her not putting any weight on the broken leg for a full three months from the date of the surgery.

Friday, June 17, 2016 – Mom called at 9 am to ask that we bring her some clothes and the morning newspaper when we came.  We stayed with her until they came to take her to physical therapy and then drove back to Palmetto.  Tonight is the first/third Friday dock party at the marina, so Rick bought some chicken breasts and corn on the cob to grill and share with those who show up at the combination pot luck/cocktail party.  He called and invited Ken and Jackie to join us and they did.  A good time  was had by all.  Before they left, we made plans to see them again tomorrow afternoon at the yacht club.

Saturday, June 18, 2016 – I got my hair cut short.  When I returned, Bill and Ruth and her mother were at the Blu Mangrove, so I walked in to say hello, and Rick was with them.  We all ate lunch together.  A little while later, we packed up and headed to the Yacht Club pool.  The high temperatures are predicted to be in the 90s all this week.  We ate supper with Ken and Jackie.

Sunday, June 19, 2016 – Happy Father’s Day.  I gave Rick his card from me.  Unfortunately, I had to include an I.O.U. because the gift I ordered for him has not arrived in the mail as yet.  We went up to the Blu Mangrove restaurant, here in the marina, to say hello to Bill’s family who were joining him for a Father’s Day luncheon and then went to JP’s for our Father’s Day Supper.  When we got back to the boat, Rick checked his e-mail and was very saddened to hear from Tucker Rolle on Compass Cay that his grandson, Ethan, who lived in Blackpoint, died the night before – making it a very sad Father’s Day for him and his entire family.

Monday, June 20, 2016 – While Rick worked around the boat, I worked on the computer.  I had a blood test taken last Monday and I received the results on-line this morning.  While my kidney-related tests are all still high, I have managed to get my diabetic sugar number (A1C) down from 9.9 to 7.9.  That is a much better level, but still should come down more.  I have another blood test scheduled in July.

Tuesday, June 21, 2016 – We drove up to St. Petersburg to the Bay Pines VA Medical Center for Rick to have a pulmonary function test.  This is being done to see if he qualifies for a VA disability due to his Mesothelioma.  After the test, we drove to Ocala.  I did some yard work in the afternoon and we had a quiet supper at the cabin.

Wednesday, June 22, 2016 – I visited with Dad in his rehab center in the morning and then we drove to Ormond and saw Rick’s mom in her rehab center.  We went to the house to rest in the mid-afternoon and had supper before returning.  Rick has not been feeling too good ever since his pulmony test – so we left after a short visit.

Thursday, June 23, 2016 – We saw Mom again before hitting the road – going back to Palmetto on I-4 this time.  We arrived at the boat around 4 p.m.  I had taken an  antihistamine this morning and was so tired, I lay down for a nap and didn’t wake up until 8:30 when Rick came to bed

Friday, June 24, 2016 – We took the boat from Riviera Dunes Marina to the transient wall at the Bradenton Yacht Club.  We had a belated-anniversary dinner with Ken and Jackie Sosville.  Their anniversary was the 21st.  After dinner, they came back to the boat and we were joined by a couple of new members, Bobby and Tammy, who are on the wall in their boat, Zenful,  for the weekend, too.

Saturday, June 25, 2016 – When I woke up this morning, I found a note in the bathroom saying, “NO WATER”.   Rick said that when he got up he heard a funny sound at the back of the boat.  The noise was coming from the coupler where we hook a water hose to the boat.  It had apparently blown out during the night and was spraying water all over the swim platform and into the river.  The dockmaster kindly offered to let him use his truck to go to a marine store to buy another one this morning.  He was able to replace the coupler later in the morning.  We had a lovely evening attending the Change of Watch ceremony and dinner dance and were happy to usher in our newest commodore Janet Amar.

Sunday, June 26, 2016 –  We started our day in the yacht club eating breakfast and then spent some time in the pool.  We rested in the afternoon and then returned to the pool around 3:30 expecting JP, Kellie and Emma to join us.  But it started raining and there was lots of thunder and lightning, so they were delayed coming.  We all got into the pool after they got there and then ate from the grand buffet that was offered as part of the club’s 70th birthday party.  All of this was followed up with a very nice fireworks display.

Monday, June 27, 2016 – We brought the boat back to its slip at Riviera Dunes and spent a quiet day.

Tuesday, June 28, 2016 – We went shopping to buy Dad something for his birthday, which is this Thursday.  While out, I made an eye appointment for next week.  Then we stopped by JPs to pick up our mail.  The mail had a check in it, so we went to the bank before returning to the boat.  I went  to the dentist in the early afternoon and we spent the remainder of the day on board.

Wednesday, June 29, 2016 – While I slept late, Rick went out and got a haircut.  We met Bill and Ruth at the Blu Mangrove Restaurant for lunch and then spent the rest of the afternoon on the boat.

Thursday, June 30, 2016 – Today is my father’s 86th birthday.  We packed and loaded the car for a long weekend away.  As soon as I finished at the doctor’s, we drove north to Ocala and stopped at the rehab center to wish Dad a happy birthday and give him a couple of gifts.  My brother, Rick, was there with him when we arrived.  I brought him outside so he could also visit with my husband, Rick.
