Tuesday, 1/1 – Happy New Year Everyone! Dad and I watched football most of the day. I fixed a traditional southern New Year’s supper of ham, hop-in-john, collard greens and cornbread. Then topped it off with pumpkin pie.

Wednesday, 1 / 2 – Spent the day taking down and packing up Christmas Decorations. After finishing the bottle of Moet that I opened on New Year’s Eve (a gift from friends, Bill and Ruth), I removed the cover from the limited-edition bottle and much to my delight it included many of the sites of Paris that Rick and I had seen in 2016 like the Eiffel Tower and the windmill at the Moulin Rouge. What a perfect remembrance for me to keep.

Under the heading, “I didn’t see that coming!”

I was experiencing some pain in my left hip which was replaced in 2004 and revised in 2008, so I went to my surgeon for a check-up. After seeing an x-ray, blood test results and an MRI, he told me that I had an elevated level of metal in my blood that was apparently coming from the metal ball in my artificial hip. Once again, I needed a revision to my left hip – removing the metal ball that was placed there in 2008 with another ceramic ball. Naturally, I was concerned about what Dad would do while I was recuperating. The doctor told me that after my stay in the hospital (2 or 3 nights), I would be transferred to a rehabilitation center and Dad could go into the same place for as long as I was there. Dad agrees that this will be our best course of action. The surgery is scheduled at Manatee Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 27.

Other things this month:

I had my annual eye exam with Dr. Michael Mackie of the Eye Center in Parrish; met with CPA, Jim Gay, to start on my 2018 taxes; wished my nephew Robmat Butler a happy birthday; and enjoyed lunch with Jackie Sosville twice. On Thursday, 1/31, JP and I toured Hawthorne Rehabilitation Center. I will check out a couple more places before making a decision.
