New this month: Emma attended two weeks of YMCA day camp and really enjoyed it.

May special occasions:

*My 67th birthday, June 1st, which would have been my parent’s 68th wedding anniversary.

*Father’s Day – June 16th . I put flowers in the church sanctuary to honor all fathers.

*Dad’s 89th birthday – June 30th.

How the month unfolded:

Saturday, 6/1 – I received a number of birthday wishes for which I am very thankful. JP, Kellie and Emma took me out for supper at the Swordfish Grille in the fishing village of Cortez.

Friday, 6/7 – My brother, Bill and his wife, Mary helped their daughter, Dr. Christina Cambre, move to her new home in rural Nebraska where she will be working as a dentist. (Dad and I are already planning a trip out there next summer!)

Saturday, 6/8 – SNAKE SCARE: JP asked me to watch from a safe distance while he “took care” of the cottonmouth water moccasin that snuck into our back yard. We love living at the edge of a reserve, but we don’t love everything that apparently lives in it!

Sunday, 6/9 – Kellie invited us to join them and their friends for a shrimp boil this evening. Sides included corn on the cob and cheese grits.  It was M M Good!

Friday, 6/14 – I let my niece, Mary Alice, know that her grandfather and I are planning a trip to Tennessee in mid-October and we hope to have a chance to visit with her and her family while we’re there. She was very excited to get the news and she also told us that she now has her Associates Degree and is working as a Vet Tech. This is something she has wanted to do for a very long time.

Also, her sister, Melissa, had a big day in Kentucky where she graduated with her Master’s in Divinity from Lexington Theological Seminary. Even though Dad and I were not able to attend, the family was well represented with her father, Rick; her son, Michael; and her Aunt Mary and Uncle Bill.

Saturday, 6/15 – We celebrated Father’s Day with the family (a day early). Kellie’s mother and father came over, as did Vanessa. JP grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. I provided desert. A good time was had by all. Dad is very proud of his service in the Navy and the time that he spent in the Korean War. I gave him a new hat for Father’s Day.

Sunday, 6/16 – Dad, Emma and I attended Sunday School and Church. Dad was surprised to see that I had placed flowers in the sanctuary in his honor and for all fathers.

On Wednesday, 6/19 – I saw an otter run across the road in the neighborhood on my way to see Dr. Stacy South who performed my complete hysterectomy in 2016. She says things continue to look good upon examination but I must continue to see her every 6 months for the next 2.5 years. I also got a “6-month checkup” with my CPA.

On Saturday, 6/22 – Dad and I drove to Ormond Beach to stay overnight with my brother-in-law, Edward Hoffmeister, and to attend niece, Melissa’s church-wide graduation luau. We were also joined by JP, Kellie and Emma who are starting their week of summer vacation.

Friday, 6/28 was my brother Bill’s last day of work – he says forever! Congrats to him and best wishes for your retirement plans which include a lot of traveling.

Sunday, 6/30 – My brother, Bill, his wife, Mary, and her mother, Joyce came to the house for Dad’s 89th birthday. I cooked a turkey breast in the crock pot. Ten of us shared Dad’s birthday dinner including his grandson, JP and wife, Kellie; and granddaughters, Emma and Vanessa along with a long-time friend of hers.
