Tuesday, May 1 through Saturday, May 5, 2018

This month started out really good.  I took my granddaughter, Vanessa, to take her GED Math test and she passed with flying colors!  We are very proud of her.  She still has to take test in three other subject areas, but it is a great first step.  Thanks to the staff at North River Care for encouraging her to take advantage of their GED program.  While Vanessa was testing, I met my friend, Jackie, for breakfast.  Her husband, Ken was in the hospital over the weekend, but is out and doing better today.  The rest of the week consisted of my usual activities.  The driveway pavers were installed at the new house this week as you can see in the picture below.  This is my single-car garage.

Sunday, May 6 through Saturday, May 12, 2018

I caught a cold and sore throat so spent much of the week at home in bed.  I was so bad that I canceled my visit with Dad this week.  I did go out to the new house with JP on Friday and was very pleased to see the pool and the framing for the outdoor fireplace.

On Saturday, – JP and I attended the Founders’ Day Luncheon, annual memorial service, and blessing of the fleet at the Bradenton Yacht Club.  Rick was one of several members who were honored.  In the picture below, I was accompanied by Past Commodore Deborah Ross as I tossed a carnation into the cut to join the others.

Sunday was Mothers’ Day.  JP and Kellie gave me a new Bible and a lovely arrangement of flowers.  On Monday, the hot tub was delivered to the house.  It needed to be set in place before the pool cage is installed.

Wednesday, I learned that one of the three air conditioners on the boat was irreparable and I would need to spend some more money in order to sell the boat.  Also, the fellow working on the air conditioners would not be able to replace it until the beginning of June.  This could have pushed the closing back, but thanks to broker, Barry Sikes, they arranged to put money to cover that expense into an escrow account allowing the closing to go ahead as scheduled.  I got an early start on my drive to Ocala Thursday morning to visit Dad.  He is still doing well and is looking forward to going with me to Palatka to join my brother, Bill’s, family for a while on the 4th of July.  I managed to have a dry ride on the way to Ocala (just over a 2-hour drive), but it poured down rain on me all the way home.  Work done at the new house included:  granite countertops, wood flooring and sidewalk.

Tuesday morning, Vanessa, passed her science and social studies GED tests, leaving only the Language Arts test to go.  Also, I said goodbye to the first grade students where I have been a volunteer most of this school year at the Imagine Manatee North School.  Wednesday, I met with Doug’s Hourly Muscle Movers to make arrangements for the move to the new house.  Thursday, I was notified that the sale of the boat that Rick and I lived on from 2010 to 2016 was final.  Below is a picture of “On The Hook” as it went up the Manatee River.

As usual, on Friday, JP and I went out to the new house.  In between rain showers (Tropical Storm Alberto is heading into the Gulf of Mexico and we are already getting rain bands), we saw men installing the pool cage and were pleased to find that JP and Kellie’s backsplash had been installed in addition to the irrigation system.  In the evening, I attended granddaughter Emma’s pre-K graduation.

Since this Memorial Day weekend was very wet, I spent most of Saturday inside boxing up things for the move.

Sunday, May 27 through Thursday, May 31, 2018

The last several days of the month were filled with mostly routine activities.  JP and I met with the shutter people on Monday afternoon for them to take the final measurements and get our approval of a change in the original shutters we had agreed upon.  When I drove by the new house on Tuesday and was very pleased to see that some of the landscaping had being installed.

Since, I sold the boat last week, I submitted my resignation to the Bradenton Yacht Club effective June 30 – 18 years after joining.
